This Perfect Square Trinomials Game is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Perfect Square Trinomials Game
To factor a perfect square trinomial, first confirm the first and last terms are perfect squares and the middle term is twice the product of their square roots. Then, use the pattern a2+2ab+b2=(a+b)2 or a2-2ab+b2=(a-b)2 to write the factored form. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
This game generates a trinomial that may or may not be a perfect square trinomial. You need check whether the trinomial is a perfect square. If it is a perfect square trinomial then factor it. If you give a wrong answer, the game will provide the correct answer.

How to factor a Perfect Square Trinomial
To factor a perfect square trinomial, first confirm the first and last terms are perfect squares and the middle term is twice the product of their square roots. Then, use the pattern a2+2ab+b2=(a+b)2 or a2-2ab+b2=(a-b)2 to write the factored form.
Step 1: Check the first and last terms:
Make sure the first and last terms of the trinomial are perfect squares (e.g.,x2, 49, 25y2.
Step 2: Check the middle term:
Verify that the middle term is equal to twice the product of the square roots of the first and last terms.
If the trinomial is a2+2ab+b2, the middle term must be 2ab.
If the trinomial is a2-2ab+b2, the middle term must be 2ab with a negative sign.
Step 3: Write the factored form:
Based on the sign of the middle term, write the trinomial as a squared binomial:
If the middle term is positive, the factored form is (a+b)2.
If the middle term is negative, the factored form is (a-b)2.
