This Factor Linear Expressions Game is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Factor Linear Expressions Game
To factor a linear expression, first identify the greatest common factor (GCF) of all the terms, which includes both the numbers and the variables. Then, divide each term by this GCF and place the GCF outside the parentheses, with the results of the division inside the parentheses. This process is the reverse of the distributive property. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
This game generates a linear expression that you can factor. The GCF may be a positive or negative number. If you give a wrong answer, the game will provide the correct answer.
Factor the expression by finding the greatest common factor (GCF).

How to Play the Factor Linear Expressions Game
The game will show you a linear expression that can be factored.
Here’s how to play:
How to Factor Linear Expressions
Step 1: Find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF)
For numerical coefficients: Find the largest number that divides evenly into all the coefficients. For example, in 15x+30, the GCF of 15 and 30 is 15.
For variables: Find the highest power of the variable that appears in every term. For example, in 9xy+12x, the GCF of x and x is x.
Combine both: The total GCF is the product of the numerical GCF and the variable GCF. For 9xy+12x, the GCF is 3x.
Step 2: Divide each term by the GCF
Take the expression and divide each term by the GCF you found.
Example: For 9xy+12x, divide each term by 3x:
9xy ÷ 3x=3y
12x ÷ 3x=4
Step 3: Write the factored expression
Write the GCF you found as a monomial outside a set of parentheses.
Place the results from your division inside the parentheses.
Example: Following the previous steps, the factored expression for 9xy+12x is 3x(3y+4).
The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to factor linear expressions.
