How to play Eldritch Invasion Solitaire?

Eldritch Invasion Solitaire is played with a standard 52-card deck with 13 ranks and 4 suits. Ranks 10 and above are evil monsters. The rest are attack cards.

When a monster card is exposed in one of the 4 tableau columns, it’ll jump into an open monster slot. If there are no open monster slots available, YOU LOSE.

Each monster slot has 2 attack slots next to it. When the monster slot is filled, you may place attack cards in the attack slots. If the combined value of the 2 cards in the attack slots is exactly equal to the value of the monster card, the monster is defeated, and all 3 cards will go to the graveyard.

Cards with rank 1 (aces) are normally of value 1, but it has a special ability: if it’s in an attack slot for a monster of matching suit, its value becomes 7. NOTE: You must use this ability at least twice in a winning game.

(e.g. 10♠️ can be defeated by 1♠️ + 3♥️, or 1♦️ + 9♣️)

Attack cards in the tableau stack by adjacent rank and unlike suit. Such stacks of any size can be moved as a unit. (e.g. 3♠️–4♣️–3♥️–2♣️ can be placed on the 4♦️)

To win the game, defeat all 16 monsters. Note that there will always be 4 cards left.

Shortcut note: After selecting a stack, you may right-click / long-press another tableau column to stack in reverse order. This shortcuts moving those cards one by one.

Hints

  • Take note of “groups” of monsters within a column. If you uncover it, all the monsters will go to the monster slots, and if you’re not careful, they will overfill the slots and cause you to lose. Fortunately, the dealer is set to only allow monster groups of 3 or fewer.
  • It can sometimes be worthwhile to deliberately release more monsters, as you can use the attack slots to temporarily hold cards. Just be careful not to overfill your slots.
  • Organizing your tableau into long stacks can sometimes help give more flexibility in selecting attack cards. Emptying a tableau column is also useful. To that end, try to use the cards with the most inconvenient suits or ranks for the monsters.
  • Think about where you’re going to use your aces. You must use their special ability at least twice in a winning game, and it’s usually a good idea to use it as often as possible.
  • Think about where you’re going to use your low numbers, especially 2’s. Twos are the hardest rank to use overall, as they can only be used on 10 or 11. This also means that you want to try to save your high numbers, especially 9’s, for these combinations.
  • It’s usually a good idea to take a moment to plan ahead once you have four monsters remaining to defeat. At that point, you are no longer in danger of overfilling your slots, so you can release the remaining monsters, organize your tableau, and think about how to match the remaining cards to avoid getting stuck.
