How to play Ark Solitaire?

Ark Solitaire, also known as Kabufuda Solitaire, is a challenging solitaire game about making matching sets of four cards. It can be played with any type of cards that has at least 10 distinguishable kinds with 4 copies each (e.g. a standard deck with face cards removed, or a Happy Families deck). It comes with four difficulty levels; in higher difficulties, some of the free cells start off locked, and must be unlocked during the course of the game.

The tableau consists of 8 rows. Matching cards can be stacked in the tableau and moved as a group.

NOTE: To move cards, click to select a card or stack, then click the destination. “Drag and drop” is not required.

When four matching cards are united on the tableau, they collapse into a locked stack. If there are locked free cells, this will unlock one of them.

Free cells may store a single card of any kind. Four matching cards can also be united in a free cell to collapse them into a locked stack.

To win the game, collapse all ten kinds of cards into ten locked stacks.

Shortcut note: Double-clicking on a card will automatically try to move it to a free cell. This includes stacks that would form a full set.

New Game:
Starts a new game with a new shuffled deck.

Reset:
Rewinds you back to the beginning of the current game.

Undo:
Undo the last move.

Settings:
Card Styles: Animals or Numbers (1-10)
Unlock All Difficulties

Winning Strategies

• Remember that you most likely have at least two choices for each move, as cards of a kind are interchangeable. That is, if you can stack cards from the 4th row on the 5th row, you likely can also stack cards from the 5th row on the 4th row; be sure to consider as many options as possible.
• Don’t be too shy to use free cells for completed stacks, especially if you have no free cells that need unlocking (e.g. on the easiest difficulty). A free cell is worth less than an empty tableau row, as the row can store several cards at once. However, on harder difficulties, you may need to consider completing some stacks on the tableau, in order to unlock more free cells.
