Use your fraction addition and subtraction skills to make exciting fraction concoctions following a recipe. The game has four difficulty levels: easy, medium, hard, and insane. Practice the basics of fraction addition and subtraction or challenge yourself with the insane level.

How to play Fraction Concoction?
The aim of the game is to follow the recipe to make the required fraction concoction.
The vials are given as fractions and you would need to add or subtract the different vials to get the required amount of reagent as given in the recipe. Several of the reagents are then blended together to complete the recipe.

Steps to play Fraction Concoction

  1. Select a vial and fill it with reagent from a dispenser (take note of the required symbol).
  2. Pour the reagent into one of the beakers.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have the correct amount of reagent in the beaker.
  4. Select the beaker to pour the reagent into the blender.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for another reagent.
  6. When you have finished all reagents in the recipe correctly, the blender will start and you would have made your own fraction concoction.
  7. The next recipe will then be shown.

Removing Reagent
In order to remove or subtract reagent from the beaker:

  1. Select an empty vial and then select the beaker.
  2. Pour the unwanted reagent into the sink.

These steps may be required for the harder levels.

Made a mistake
If you made a mistake you can dump unneeded reagent from a beaker or vial into the sink.

Difficulty Levels
The game is designed to grow with the player, offering four distinct difficulty levels:

  1. Easy: Add fractions with common denominator. (You can also subtract fractions but that is not required to get to the solution)
  2. Medium: You may need to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominations. (Knowledge of equivalent fractions may be required and at most one fraction per ingredient may need to be converted)
  3. Hard: Adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators that may require several steps. (More than one fraction per ingredient may need to be converted)
  4. Insane: For those who want a challenge. Each ingredient may require multiple vials added or subtracted several times. Mixed fractions may need to be converted.

If the “Adaptive difficulty” option is on, you will automatically be moved to the next level when you have completed three recipes correctly.

Generate New Recipe
Select the “Generate new recipe” option if you want to restart with a new recipe.

Keep vial selected after pouring
This option is useful if you need to select from the same vial several times. However, the vial must be deselected before picking up beaker.

The Educational Edge
Unlike standard worksheets, Fraction Concoction provides immediate visual feedback. If you pour too much, you’ll have to “dump” the reagent into the sink and try again, mimicking a real science experiment. It’s an excellent way for students to build mental math speed and a deep, intuitive understanding of how fractions combine and change in the real world.

Whether you’re a student looking to ace your next test or just someone who loves a good logic puzzle, this game makes “doing the math” feel like a reward rather than a chore. Give it a spin and see if you have what it takes to be the master of the Fraction Lab!
