Convert Fractions to Decimals Game (General)
The general way to convert a fraction to a decimal would be to divide the numerator by the denominator. However, there is a short cut if the denominator is a multiple of 10 or a factor of 100. If the denominator is a multiple of 10 then write the numerator and then move the decimal point to the left by the same number of places as there are zeros in the denominator. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

In this game, you can enter the maximum value for the denominator to adjust the difficulty. When necessary, you can round the solution to two decimal places. If you give a wrong answer, the game will give you to the correct solution.

Steps for Converting a Fraction to a Decimal

  1. Identify the numerator and the denominator: of the fraction.
  2. Perform the division: Divide the numerator by the denominator.
If the numerator is smaller than the denominator, add a decimal point and zeros to the numerator to make it larger than the denominator and allow the division to proceed.
Bring the decimal point straight up: into the answer (the quotient).
  3. Continue the division: by adding more zeros as necessary.
  4. Repeat: until the remainder is zero or the division results in a repeating decimal.
  5. If the decimal is repeating, you can place a bar over the repeating digit or digits, or you can round the decimal to the desired number of decimal places.

    Examples
    3/4 to decimal:
    3 ÷ 4
    Add a decimal and zero: 3.0 ÷ 4
    4 goes into 30 seven times (7 x 4 = 28), leaving a remainder of 2.
    Add another zero: 20 ÷ 4
    4 goes into 20 five times (5 x 4 = 20).
    Result: 0.75.
