Add Mixed Numbers Game
Adding mixed numbers is a lot like adding fractions, but you have to keep track of the whole numbers as well. One method is to add the whole numbers and fractions separately and then combine the parts. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

This game will require you to add two mixed numbers. If you give a wrong answer, the game will provide the correct answer. The game also allows you to enter the upper bound of the denominator to customize the difficulty of the game. How to add mixed numbers
Add Mixed Numbers
To add mixed numbers, first add the whole number parts, then add the fractional parts separately. If the denominators of the fractions are different, find a common denominator for them and convert them to equivalent fractions before adding the numerators. Finally, combine the sum of the whole numbers and the sum of the fractions, simplifying the result if the sum of the fractions is an improper fraction.

Steps to add mixed numbers:

  1. Add the whole numbers:
Add the whole number parts of the mixed numbers together.
  2. Find a common denominator for the fractions:
Look at the fractional parts. If their denominators are different, find a common denominator for both fractions.
  3. Convert fractions to equivalent fractions:
Multiply the numerator and denominator of each fraction by the same number to give them the new common denominator.
  4. Add the fractional parts:
Add the numerators of the equivalent fractions and keep the common denominator.
  5. Combine and simplify:
Add the sum of the whole numbers to the sum of the fractions. If the resulting fraction is improper (the numerator is larger than or equal to the denominator), convert it to a mixed number by dividing the numerator by the denominator, and add the new whole part to the total whole number.
  6. Simplify:
If the fractional part of the final answer can be simplified, do so by dividing the numerator and denominator by their greatest common factor.

The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to add mixed numbers.
