Divide Mixed Numbers Game
To divide mixed numbers, first convert each mixed number into an improper fraction, then use the “Keep, Change, Flip” method. After this, multiply the numerators and denominators straight across and simplify the resulting fraction. If the answer is an improper fraction, convert it back to a mixed number by dividing the numerator by the denominator. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

This game will require you to divide two mixed numbers. If you give a wrong answer, the game will provide the correct answer. The game also allows you to enter the upper bound of the denominator to customize the difficulty of the game.

How to divide mixed numbers
Divide Mixed Numbers
To divide mixed numbers, first convert each mixed number into an improper fraction then use the “Keep, Change, Flip” method by keeping the first fraction, changing the division sign to multiplication, and flipping the second fraction (finding its reciprocal). After this, multiply the numerators and denominators straight across and simplify the resulting fraction. If the answer is an improper fraction, convert it back to a mixed number by dividing the numerator by the numerator by the denominator.

  1. Convert to Improper Fractions
For each mixed number, multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator.
The result is the new numerator, and the original denominator stays the same.
  2. Apply the “Keep, Change, Flip” (KCF) Method
Keep: Write down the first improper fraction exactly as it is.
Change: Change the division symbol to a multiplication symbol.
Flip: Find the reciprocal of the second fraction by flipping it (switching its numerator and denominator).
  3. Multiply the Fractions
Multiply the numerators of the two fractions together.
Multiply the denominators of the two fractions together.
  4. Simplify the Result
Look for any common factors between the numerators and denominators and cancel them out (this is called cross-cancellation and makes the numbers smaller).
If the resulting fraction is improper (the numerator is larger than the denominator), convert it back to a mixed number.
To do this, divide the new numerator by the new denominator. The quotient is the whole number, the remainder is the new numerator, and the denominator remains the same.
