How to divide Fractions
Dividing Fractions
Dividing by a fraction is the same as multiplying by its inverse (or reciprocal). To divide fractions, remember the phrase “Keep, Change, Flip."
Steps for Dividing Fractions

  1. Keep: the first fraction the same.
  2. Change: the division sign (÷) to a multiplication sign (×).
  3. Flip: the second fraction, also known as finding its reciprocal. For example, the reciprocal of 3/4 is 4/3.
  4. Multiply: the two numerators together and the two denominators together.
  5. Simplify: the final answer by reducing it to its lowest terms, if necessary.

     <br Example: Divide 3/5 by 1/2.
    Keep: the first fraction: 3/5.
Change: the division to multiplication: 3/5 ×.
Flip: the second fraction (1/2) to get its reciprocal (2/1): 3/5 × 2/1.
    Multiply: the numerators and denominators: (3 × 2) / (5 × 1) = 6/5.
Simplify: if needed. In this case, 6/5 is already in its simplest form, though it can also be written as a mixed number: 1 and 1/5.
