How to subtract Fractions from a Whole Number
Subtracting Fractions from Whole Numbers

  1. Rewrite the whole number:
Convert the whole number into a mixed number, where the whole number part is one less than the original whole number, and the fractional part is equal to one whole.
    For example, if you are subtracting 3/8 from 7, rewrite 7 as 6 and 8/8 (since 8/8 = 1).
  2. Subtract the fraction:
Subtract the fraction from the new fractional part, and then subtract the whole numbers.
    For example, (6 + 8/8) - 3/8 becomes 6 + (8/8 - 3/8).
    Subtract the fractions: 8/8 - 3/8 = 5/8.
The whole number 6 remains unchanged.
  3. Combine the parts:
Combine the whole number and the remaining fraction to get your final answer.
    For example, 6 + 5/8 = 6 5/8.
