Spelling Patterns for the /m/ Sound
The most common way to spell the /m/ sound is with the letter “m."
At the beginning of words:
Examples: man, map, moon, mother, mouse
In the middle of words:
Examples: camel, lemon, summer, hammer
At the end of words:
Examples: drum, room, jam, gum
Double “MM”
The /m/ sound is often spelled as “mm” when it comes between two vowels.
Examples: comma, summer, hammer, common
The Silent “B” After “M”
