Learning the “F” Sound
The “F” sound is represented by the letter F in words. It is a voiceless consonant sound, made by forcing air between the upper teeth and the lower lip. This sound is common at the beginning, middle, and end of many words in English.
How to Make the “F” Sound
- Lip Position: Place your upper front teeth lightly on your lower lip.
- Airflow: Push air out between your teeth and lip without using your voice.
- Silent Vocal Cords: The “F” sound does not involve vocal cord vibration.
When the “F” Sound Appears
- At the Beginning of Words
Examples: fan, fish, fun, fox, frog - In the Middle of Words
Examples: sofa, coffee, waffle, office, muffin - At the End of Words
Examples: leaf, puff, stuff, cliff, roof
