Learning the upper case letter G and lower case letter g can be a fun and engaging experience for preschoolers when approached with fun and hands-on activities.

  1. Introduce the Letter
    What the letters look like?
    The uppercase G looks like a big circle, but it’s open on the right side, with a small line in the middle. It is like a hungry monster with its mouth open, ready to eat!
    The lowercase g looks like a circle with a curvy tail hanging down below the line.

  2. Tracing and Writing
    Use the following worksheets for tracing uppercase G and lowercase g.

  3. Phonics and Sounds
    The letter G makes two sounds: the hard /g/ sound like in go, grape, and goat, and the soft /j/ sound like in giraffe and gem.
    Focus on the hard G sound for younger learners.
    Examples:
    Hard G Words (/g/): goat, grapes, gift, game, garden, gorilla, gold.
    Soft G Words (/j/): giraffe, gem, giant.

    Use playdough to shape the letter G.
    Cut out a large letter G and let children decorate it with drawings, glitter, or stickers.
