Expanded Form Worksheets

Writing numbers in expanded form involves expressing a number as the sum of its individual place values. Each digit in a number has a place value, and the expanded form shows the value of each digit.

Example:
Let’s take the number 452.
4 is in the hundreds place: 4 x 100 = 400
5 is in the tens place: 5 x 10 = 50
2 is in the ones place. So, the expanded form of 452 is
400 + 50 + 2.

Encourage students to practice writing numbers in expanded form by breaking down each digit into its corresponding place value. This exercise helps reinforce the concept of place value and enhances students’ understanding of the numerical structure.
