How to Compare Numbers
Compare Numbers

To compare numbers, you look at their digits from left to right, starting with the highest place value. The first digit where the numbers differ determines which is greater or lesser.

  1. Count the number of digits: The number with more digits is the larger number.
Example: 456 is greater than 87 because 456 has three digits, while 87 has only two.
  2. Compare digits from left to right: If the numbers have the same number of digits, start comparing the digits in the highest place value (the leftmost digit).
    Example: Compare 564 and 546.
The hundreds place is the same (5).
Move to the tens place: 6 is greater than 4.
    Therefore, 564 is greater than 546 (564>546).
