Convert Decimals to Mixed Numbers Game
To convert a decimal to a fraction, first count the number of digits after the decimal point, which determines the denominator (10 for one digit, 100 for two, 1,000 for three, and so on). Then, write the decimal number without the decimal point as the numerator. Finally, simplify the resulting fraction by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common factor. How to convert decimals to mixed numbers
Steps for converting a decimal to a mixed number:
A mixed number is composed of a whole number and a fraction. The decimal point perfectly separates these two parts. The number left of the decimal is the whole number part (W). The number(s) right of the decimal is the numerator of your starting fraction (N).

  1. Identify the denominator: Determine the place value of the last digit in the decimal.
If the last digit is in the tenths place, the denominator is 10.
If it’s in the hundredths place, the denominator is 100.
If it’s in the thousandths place, the denominator is 1,000.
  2. Write the numerator: Write the decimal number as a whole number, ignoring the decimal point. This becomes your numerator.
  3. Form the fraction: Place the numerator over the denominator you identified in step 1.
  4. Simplify the fraction: Reduce the fraction to its simplest form by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by their greatest common factor (GCF).
