How to play the “Midpoint between 2 Complex Numbers” Game

  1. Starting the Game
    When you first open the game, you are presented with a Difficulty Menu:
    Easy Mode: Uses small integers. The sums are usually even numbers, so the results are clean whole numbers or simple 0.5 decimals.
    Hard Mode: Uses a wider range of numbers and negative values. You’ll need to be careful with your signs.

  2. Solving a Problem
    You need to find the average of the parts:
    Average the Real Parts:
    Add the two real numbers together and divide by 2.
    \(\text{Real}_M = \frac{\text{Real}_1 + \text{Real}_2}{2}\)
    Average the Imaginary Parts:
    Add the two imaginary coefficients together and divide by 2.
    \(\text{Imaginary}_M = \frac{\text{Imaginary}_1 + \text{Imaginary}_2}{2}\)
    Combine them:
    Put them back into the a + bi format.

  3. Making Your Choice
    You will see four possible answers in a grid.
    Select the match: Click the button you believe is correct.
    Instant Feedback: If you are right, the button turns Green and a high-pitched chord plays. If you are wrong, the button turns Red and a low-pitched tone sounds.
    The Blank Space: Once you click, the correct answer fills in the “?” space to confirm the result.

  4. Using the “Show Steps” 🔍 Button
    If you get a problem wrong (or even if you got it right but aren’t sure why), click the Show Steps button. A breakdown will appear showing:

  5. Progression
    Score Tracking: Your current score (Correct/Total) is displayed in the top right corner.
    Next Problem: After a selection is made, the “Next Problem” button appears to generate a fresh equation.
    Main Menu: You can return to the menu at any time to switch difficulties.

The Formula
If you have two complex numbers:
z1 = a + bi
z2 = c + di
The midpoint M is given by:
\(M = \frac{z_1 + z_2}{2} = \left( \frac{a+c}{2} \right) + \left( \frac{b+d}{2} \right)i\)

The Step-by-Step Process
An Example
Let’s find the midpoint between z1 = 4 + 8i and z2 = 2 + 2i.
Real: (4 + 2) / 2 = 3
Imaginary: 8 + 2) / 2 = 5
Midpoint: 3 + 5i

This video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to find the midpoint between 2 complex numbers.
