Divide Exponents Game
To divide exponents, when the bases are the same, you subtract the exponents. For example, xa ÷ xb = x(a-b) Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

This game focuses on the rules for dividing exponents. It will have a start screen where you can choose between problems with only positive exponents or a mix that includes negative exponents. If you make a mistake, the game will show you the correct answer.

How to Play the Divide Exponents Game
The game will challenge you to divide two exponents that have the same base by using the “quotient rule” for exponents: xa ÷ xb = x(a-b)
Here’s how to play:

  1. Select the Exponent Type: Choose between problems with only positive exponents or a mix that includes negative exponents.
  2. Timed Option: Check the timer if you want to enable the 60 second timer. Click “Start Game”.
  3. Look at the Problem: You’ll be given two exponents with the same base. Divide them.
  4. Enter Your Answer: Enter in the exponent for the result. Remember to enter the negative symbol for negative numbers.
  5. Check Your Work: Click the Check button (or press the Enter key). The game will tell you if you’re correct. If you are wrong, you will be shown the correct answer.
  6. Get a New Problem: Click the Next button for a new problem.
Your score is tracked at the top, showing how many you’ve gotten right out of the total you’ve tried.
  7. Back to Menu Click “Back to Menu” to restart the game.

How to Divide Exponents
The Quotient Rule rule for dividing exponents states that if you are dividing two exponential expressions with the same base, you subtract the exponent of the denominator from the exponent of the numerator.
Divide Exponents
Dividing Exponents with the Same Base
This is called the “quotient rule” for exponents.
Rule: am ÷ an = a(m-n)
How to Apply the Rule

  1. Identify the base:
Ensure the base (the number or variable being multiplied) is the same in both the numerator and the denominator.
  2. Divide the coefficients:
If there are numerical coefficients, divide them as you normally would.
  3. Subtract the exponents:
Subtract the exponent in the bottom term from the exponent in the top term.
  4. Combine:
Write the result with the common base, the new coefficient (if any), and the new exponent.

The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to divide exponents with the same base.
