How to Order Decimals
Order Decimals

  1. Line Up the Decimals
The first and most important step is to line up the decimals vertically by the decimal point.
  2. Compare the Whole Numbers
Start by looking at the digits to the left of the decimal point.
  3. Use Zeros as Placeholders (Equalizing the Length)
This is the trick that makes ordering easy. Fill in any missing places to the right with zeros so that all decimals have the same number of digits after the decimal point. Use the longest decimal to determine how many places you need.
  4. Compare Digits, Starting with the Tenths
Now, read the numbers from left to right, column by column. The first column where the digits differ tells you which number is greater.
