There are rules for integer operations. When adding numbers with different signs, subtract the smaller number from the larger one and take the sign of the larger number. When you subtract a negative number, it’s the same as adding a positive one. When multiplying or dividing two numbers with the same sign, the answer is always positive. How to Play the Integer Operations Practice
The game is designed to help you practice your add integers skills in a fun environment.
Here’s how to play:

1. Select the operations you want to practice: Select one or more from addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
   
2. Timed Option: Check the timer if you want to enable the 60 second timer. Click “Start Game”.
   
3. Look at the Problem: You’ll see two integers at the top of the box. Perform the operation.
   
4. Enter Your Answer: Type your answer into the box with the question mark ?.
   
5. Check Your Work: Click the Check button (or press the Enter key). The game will tell you if you’re correct. If you are wrong, you will be shown the correct answer.
   
6. Get a New Problem: Click the Next button (or press Enter again) for a new problem.
   Your score is tracked at the top, showing how many you’ve gotten right out of the total you’ve tried.
7. Back to Menu Click “Back to Menu” to restart the game.
    
   

Strategies for Integer Operations
Learning to perform integer operations in your head is a powerful skill that can make math much faster and more intuitive. Instead of counting, you’ll learn to see the relationships between numbers to quickly find the answer.
 
Integer Rules
Addition
The rule for adding integers depends on whether the numbers have the same sign or different signs.
Same Signs: If both numbers are positive or both are negative, you add their absolute values and keep the common sign.
Example 1: 5+3=8
Example 2: (−5)+(−3)=−8
Different Signs: If the numbers have different signs, you subtract the smaller absolute value from the larger one. The answer will have the sign of the number with the greater absolute value.
Example 1: (−5)+3. The absolute values are 5 and 3. Subtracting them gives you 2. Since 5 has the larger absolute value and it is negative, the answer is −2.
Example 2: 5+(−3). The absolute values are 5 and 3. Subtracting them gives you 2. Since 5 has the larger absolute value and it is positive, the answer is 2.
 
Subtraction
The easiest way to subtract integers is to change the problem into an addition problem. You keep the first number, change the subtraction sign to an addition sign, and flip the sign of the second number. Then, you follow the rules for addition.
Example 1: 5−(−3). Keep the 5, change the subtraction to addition, and flip the sign of -3 to positive 3. The problem becomes 5+3=8.
Example 2: (−5)−3. Keep the -5, change the subtraction to addition, and flip the sign of 3 to negative 3. The problem becomes (−5)+(−3)=−8.
Example 3: 5−3. Keep the 5, change the subtraction to addition, and flip the sign of 3 to negative 3. The problem becomes 5+(−3)=2.
 
Multiplication & Division
The rules for multiplication and division are the same. You just perform the operation as you normally would, and then determine the sign of the answer based on the following rules.
Same Signs: If the two integers have the same sign (both positive or both negative), the answer is always positive.
Example 1: 5×3=15
Example 2: (−5)×(−3)=15
Example 3: 12÷3=4
Example 4: (−12)÷(−3)=4
Different Signs: If the two integers have different signs (one positive and one negative), the answer is always negative.
Example 1: 5×(−3)=−15
Example 2: (−5)×3=−15
Example 3: 12÷(−3)=−4
Example 4: (−12)÷3=−4
