How to Write a Number from Expanded Notation to its Normal Form

  1. Understand the parts:
    Expanded notation expresses a number as a sum of its place values. For example, the number 1,947 in expanded form is (1 x 1000) + (9 x 100) + (4 x 10) + (7).
  2. Perform the multiplication:
    Multiply each digit by its corresponding place value. In the example, 1 x 1000 = 1000, 9 x 100 = 900, and so on.
  3. Add the results:
Add the products from the previous step together.
    1000 + 900 + 40 + 7 = 1947.
