Slope & Intercept of an Equation Game
To find the slope and intercept of a line, write the equation in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b), where ’m’ is the slope (the coefficient of the ‘x’ term) and ‘b’ is the y-intercept (the constant term). Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

The game will give you the equation of a line either in slope-intercept form or in standard form. You will need to give the slope and y-intercept of the line. If you get an answer wrong, it will show you the correct solution.

How to Play the Slope & Intercept of an Equation Game
To find the slope and intercept of a line, first, write the equation in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b), where ’m’ is the slope (the coefficient of the ‘x’ term) and ‘b’ is the y-intercept (the constant term).
Here’s how to play:

  1. Equation Form Select which the equation form: Slope Intercept, Standard or Random.
  2. Timed Option: Check the timer if you want to enable the 60 second timer. Click “Start Game”.

How to find the Slope & Intercept of an Equation
To find the slope and y-intercept from a linear equation, rearrange the equation into slope-intercept form, which is y = mx + b. In this form, the coefficient of x is the slope (m), and the constant term is the y-intercept (b).
Slope & Intercept of an Equation

  1. Convert to Slope-Intercept Form
Your first step is to get the equation into the format y = mx + b.
If y is already isolated: The equation is in slope-intercept form.
If y is not isolated: You need to perform algebraic operations to get y by itself on one side of the equation.
    Example: For the equation 3x + y = 5, subtract 3x from both sides to get y = -3x + 5.
  2. Identify the Slope (m)
Once in y = mx + b form, the slope is the number multiplied by x.
    Example: In y = 5x + 3, the slope m is 5
    . Example: In y = -2x + 3, the slope m is -2.
  3. Identify the Y-intercept (b)
The y-intercept is the constant term (the number without an x) in the equation.
    Example: In y = 5x + 3, the y-intercept b is 3.
    Example: In y = 2x - 7, the y-intercept b is -7 (you include the negative sign).

The video gives a clear, step-by-step approach to find the slope and intercept of an equation.
