This Order of Ops (Mixed Op) Game/Worksheet, Integer Version, is a great way to put your skills to the test in a fun environment. By practicing, you’ll start to work out the answers efficiently.
Order of Ops (Mixed Op) Quiz/Game-Integer
Welcome to Integer Ops. The game tests your understanding of the Order of Operations (PEMDAS) and your ability to handle positive and negative numbers.
This game helps you master the hierarchy rule: where Multiplication & Division have a higher priority than Addition & Subtraction. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
Check out the following Order of Operations Games/Quizzes for the complete PEMDAS series.
How to play the Integer Ops Game
Choose Your Level
From the main menu, select your difficulty. Two-Step problems have three numbers and two operations, while Three-Step problems are more complex.
Identify the Priority Operation
Look at the Active Step (the bold equation in the center). You must solve one part of the equation at a time following these priority rules:
Multiplication (*) and Division (/) from left to right.
Addition (+) and Subtraction (-) from left to right.
Write the “Next Line”
Instead of just typing the final answer, you must type the entire equation simplified by exactly one step.
Problem: 11 * (-3) + 5
Your Step: You solve the multiplication first. 11 * -3 = -33.
What you type: -33 + 5
Notation Rules
To keep the math clean, the game uses parentheses for negative numbers that follow an operator (e.g., 5 + (-2) instead of 5 + -2).
The Laws of Signs
Since you are working with integers, keep these rules in mind:
Multiplication/Division:
Same signs = Positive (e.g., -5 * -2 = 10)
Different signs = Negative (e.g., 5 * -2 = -10)
Addition/Subtraction:
Adding a negative is the same as subtracting a positive.
Streaks and Mastery
Streak: Your streak increases only if you finish a full problem without a single mistake.
Mistakes: If you enter a wrong step, your streak resets to 0. You can still finish the problem for practice, but it won’t count toward your streak.
