How to Play the Coins to Cents Game
Step 1: Set Your Difficulty
When you first open the game, you’ll see a menu with four different coins. Since the game starts with nothing selected, you get to decide how hard the round will be.
Select Your Coins: Click on the coins you want to practice. A green border means that coin is “active” and will appear in your problems.
Strategy:
Beginner: Select only Pennies and Dimes to practice counting by 10s and 1s.
Intermediate: Add Nickels to practice skip-counting by 5s.
Expert: Add Quarters to practice adding 25s

Step 2: Solve the Money Mystery
Once you hit “Start Practice,” the game will give you a “shopping list” of coins. Your goal is to find out how many cents they are worth in total.
How to Calculate:
Multiply each group or Skip Count:
Quarters: Count by 25s (25, 50, 75, 100).
Dimes: Count by 10s (10, 20, 30…).
Nickels: Count by 5s (5, 10, 15…).
Pennies: Just count by 1s.
Add them up: Combine the totals from each group to get your final answer.
Type & Check: Enter your total in the box and click “Check Total."

Example:
The game displays the following problem on the screen:
“3 dimes, 2 nickels, 4 pennies”
Step 1: Break it down
You need to convert each coin type into its cent value. Think of it like a puzzle with three pieces:
Dimes (10¢ each): Since there are 3, you count: 10, 20, 30. That is 30¢.
Nickels (5¢ each): Since there are 2, you count: 5, 10. That is 10¢.
Pennies (1¢ each): Since there are 4, you count: 1, 2, 3, 4. That is 4¢.

Step 2: Add the totals
Now, you put the pieces together:
30¢ (Dimes) + 10¢ (Nickels) + 4¢ (Pennies) = 44¢

Step 3: Enter and Listen
Type 44 into the answer box.
Click “Check Total."

Quick Reference Table

If you see… Multiply by… Count like this…
Quarters 25 25, 50, 75, 100
Dimes 10 10, 20, 30, 40
Nickels 5 5, 10, 15, 20
Pennies 1 1, 2, 3, 4

Tips:
· Practice Skip Counting by 5s, 10s and 25s
· The “One Coin” Practice: If a student is struggling with the value of a Nickel (5¢), have them select only Nickels in the menu. This turns the game into a “Multiply by 5” trainer.
· The “Dime-Penny” Bridge: Select only Dimes and Pennies. This helps students understand place value (10s and 1s).
