Basic Absolute Value Equation Game
This game tests your conceptual understanding of absolute value as distance.
For example,
If |x| = b and b is > 0, it means x is b units away from zero. This can happen in two directions. The solutions are x = b or x = -b.
If |x| = 0 then there is only one solution, x = 0.
if |x| = b and b is < 0, then there is no solution because distance cannot be negative.

How to play the “Basic Absolute Value Equation Game”

  1. Analyze the Equation
Look at the value of a in the equation |x| = a. This number determines how many solutions you are looking for.
If a is positive: There are two solutions (the positive and negative version of the number).
If a is zero: There is only one solution (0).
If a is negative: There are no solutions.

  2. Select Your Answers
Click the buttons in the grid to select your answers.
    Selected buttons will turn blue.
If the equation has two solutions, you must click both before submitting.
If the equation is impossible (e.g., |x| = -5), click the “No Solution” button.

  3. Check and Advance
Click “Check Solutions” to see if you are right.
Green highlights mean you found a correct solution.
Red highlights mean you selected a wrong number.
Hit “Next Equation” to move to the next round and increase your score.
