Order of Operations - Parenthesis, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division

Objective: I know how to perform mixed operations with parenthesis, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

If the calculations involve a combination of parenthesis, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division then

Step 1: First, perform the operations within the parenthesis

Step 2: Then, perform multiplication and division from left to right.

Step 3: Next, perform addition and subtraction from left to right.

Example:

Calculate 9 × (12 – 2) ÷ 5 + 1 =

Solution:

9 × (12 – 2) ÷ 5 + 1 (perform within parenthesis)

= 9 × 10 ÷ 5 + 1(perform multiplication)

= 90 ÷ 5 + 1(perform subtraction)

= 18 + 1 (perform addition)

= 19

Calculate the following:

2 × (10 – 7) =

60 ÷ (3 + 2) =

4 + (11 – 5) ÷ 2 =

5 × (6 + 3) – 7 =

6 - (7 – 4) × 2 =

9 + (2 + 22) ÷ 6 =

10 – 2 × (3 – 2) =

14 – 12 ÷ (7 – 4) =

7 × (6 – 4) – 2 × 5 =

15 ÷ (2 × 2 + 1) – 6 ÷ 3 =
