How to Play the Game

1. Listen to the Word:
   A random word from the word bank will appear in lowercase text in the center card area. The built-in voice companion will automatically announce the word and ask: “Does this word have a short i, or a long i sound?"
   

2.Select Your Answer:
Click or tap one of the two colored choice buttons below the card:
Short i (Pink button - like “fish”)
Long i (Teal button - like “kite”)

3. Get Instant Feedback:
   If you are correct: The button will pop green, the narrator says “Good job!”, and a brand-new word instantly appears.
   If you are incorrect: The button shakes red, the narrator says “Let’s try another one”, and the game automatically moves to a new card to keep practice continuous and engaging.
   

4. Track Your Score:
   Your overall progress updates immediately on the scoreboard in a Score: [Correct Answers] / [Total Attempts] format.
   

5. Replay Sound:
   You can click the audio speaker button (🔊) next to the word at any point to hear it pronounced again.
   

The Difference Between Short i and Long i Sounds
The fundamental difference between these two sounds is how the voice is produced and whether the letter explicitly says its name.

1. The Short “i” Sound (/ɪ/)
   The Sound: It makes a crisp, short “ih” sound.
   How it’s formed: Your mouth stays slightly open, but your lips and jaw remain relaxed. The sides of your tongue push lightly against your top teeth.
   Common Patterns: Typically found in closed, single-syllable words where a single vowel is trapped by surrounding consonants (CVC pattern).
   Examples from the Game: pig, fish, ring, milk, zip.
   

2. The Long “i” Sound (/aɪ/)
   The Sound: It says its own letter name: “eye”.
   How it’s formed: This is actually a diphthong (a gliding vowel). Your mouth starts relatively wide open and smoothly glides narrower as your tongue rises up toward the roof of your mouth.
   Common Patterns: Usually relies on structural spelling clues, like a silent e pulling the vowel long at the end of a word (CVCe), or specific vowel combinations like ie.
   Examples from the Game: kite, bike, pie, lime, slide.
