Value of Digit Quiz/Game
Welcome to Place Value Master. In this game, your goal is to look at a large number and determine exactly how much the underlined digit is worth based on its position. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to play the Value of Digit Game

  1. Analyze the Number
Look at the large number in the center of the screen. One of the digits will be red and underlined.
For example, in the number \(5,\underline{4}82\), the number 4 is the target.

  2. Identify the Place Value
Look at where that digit sits. Each position has a specific value:
    Ones: The far right.
Tens: Two spots from the right.
Hundreds: Three spots from the right.
Thousands: Four spots from the right.

  3. Calculate the Value
Multiply the digit by its place value.
If the digit is 4 and it is in the Hundreds place, its value is 400.
If the digit is 4 and it is in the Tens place, its value is 40.

  4. Pick the Correct Button
Select the button from the grid that matches the value you calculated.
Correct Answer: The button turns green, you hear a happy chime, and your Streak goes up.
Wrong Answer: The button turns red, you hear a low tone, and your Streak resets to zero.

Tips
The “Zero” Trick: A quick way to find the value is to look at the underlined digit and count how many numbers are to its right. Turn all those numbers into zeros.
Example: In \(8,\underline{3}92\), there are two numbers after the 3. Change them to zeros to get 300.
Watch the Comma: Commas help you see the “Thousands” family quickly. Anything to the left of the first comma is in the thousands (1,000, 10,000, or 100,000)
