Welcome to the Unit Price Challenge! In the real world, products come packaged in all shapes and sizes. A larger box isn’t automatically a better deal, and eye-catching sale tags can easily mask a bad bargain. This game cuts through the marketing fluff by training students to track down the absolute bottom line: the unit price (the cost of a single item, ounce, pound, or gallon). By finding this hidden common denominator, students unlock the ultimate consumer superpower—the ability to compare any two deals on the shelf objectively. How to Play

1. Configure the Procurement Board
   When you launch the game, you will face the Dashboard Menu. Customize the behavior of your game session using three diagnostic toggle switches:
   Clean Whole-Dollar Dividends: Turn this on if you are introducing the concept to beginners. It locks the game into clean integer multiplication, meaning answers will always be clean whole numbers like $3.00 or $5.00. Leave it off for authentic real-world decimal math.
   Synthesizer Audio Feedback: Enables sound cues. Correct calculations trigger a cheerful upward musical jump; incorrect entries sound a heavy bass warning.
   60-Second Blitz Timer: Turn this on to put a 60-second timer on the line for competitive high-score tracking. Turn it off to allow self-paced remedial practice.
   

2. Inspect the Shipments
   Click Enter Marketplace to load the main view. Each round generates a brand-new item card featuring:
   A vibrant product icon (like 🥛, 🍯, or 🫘).
   The total bulk shipment size and invoice price.
   A dynamic text cue clarifying the target measurement unit (e.g., Calculate the price per gallon).
   

3. Key in Valuations
   Using your scrap paper or mental math, divide the dollar amount by the unit quantity. Type the final value into the numeric input slot next to the dynamic unit label. Click Submit Valuation or smash the Enter key to finalize your entry.
   

4. Overcoming Cost Valuation Variances
   Success: A correct answer pads your Profit Score by 10 points and drops the next box onto the line immediately.
   The Correction Layer: If your calculation deviates from the target valuation, the market timer completely freezes and a full-screen Remedial Overlay takes over.
   

Why the overlay matters: Instead of leaving students guessing where their arithmetic went wrong, the overlay freezes the action to layout the division problem explicitly. It shows the exact equation required to solve the scenario so students can calibrate their calculators before resuming. Click Sync Calculator & Continue (or tap Enter) to get back to the action.

How the Math Works
A unit price is a specific type of unit rate where the first item is money (cost) and the baseline unit is a measure of physical quantity (amount).

To scale any bulk price down to its single-unit equivalent, we execute a direct division problem.

The Core Formula
To calculate how much money a single individual unit costs, divide the total invoice cost by the total number of units included in the package:
\(\text{Unit Price} = \frac{\text{Total Cost}}{\text{Quantity of Units}}\)

Because we are dealing with standard currency values, the game engine automatically rounds and formats answers to two decimal places, matching how prices look on actual grocery shelves.

Real-Market Examples

1. Wholesale Fruits (Whole Dollar Results):
   The Bulk Deal: A box of 6 avocados costs $12.00.
   The Calculation: We need to divide the total financial investment by the physical count.
   The Math: \(\frac{$12.00}{6 \text{ avocados}} = $2.00 \text{ per avocado}\).
   Your Target Input: 2 or 2.00
   

2. Liquid Measurements (Decimal Fractional Results):
   The Bulk Deal: A large tub containing 50 fluid ounces of laundry detergent costs $12.50.
   The Calculation: Find the cost of just one single fluid ounce.
   The Math: \(\frac{$12.50}{50 \text{ fl. oz.}} = $0.25 \text{ per fl. oz.}\)
