Tongue Twisters

A tongue twister is a phrase or sentence that is difficult to say correctly and quickly, often because of the repetition of similar sounds (alliteration) or the close proximity of words that require rapid shifts in articulation. They’re a fun way to practice pronunciation, improve articulation.

The following diagram gives some popular tongue twisters.

A certain young fellow named Beebee

Betty Botter
Betty Botter bought some butter but, said she, the butter’s bitter.
If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter.
But a bit of better butter will make my bitter batter better.
So she bought some better butter, better than the bitter butter,
put it in her bitter batter, made her bitter batter better.
So ’t was better Betty Botter bought some better butter.

Denise sees the fleece
Denise sees the fleece,
Denise sees the fleas.
At least Denise could sneeze
and feed and freeze the fleas.

Silly Sally
Silly Sally swiftly shooed seven silly sheep.
