Solving Absolute Value Equations: The Mastery Track
In these levels, you know the distance, but you have to find the original number (x). Remember: most absolute value equations have two solutions!
Level 1
The Basics (|x|=a): Simple one-step identification. If the distance is 5, where could x be?

Level 2
Outside Operations (|x| ± a=b, a|x|=b): Learn to isolate the absolute value bars first by adding, subtracting, or dividing.

Level 3
Inside Shifting (|x ± b|=a): Discover how numbers inside the bars shift your position on the number line. Learn the “Split and Solve” Method.
