Term To Term Rule Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Term To Term Rule Worksheet/Game. This game involves validating the sequence, identifying the rule, and then using that rule to predict the next number. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to play the Term To Term Rule Game
Phase 1: The Validation Layer
“Is it an Arithmetic Sequence?”
When the game starts, you will see four numbers in orange cards. Your first job is to check the “gaps” between every single number.
Calculate the Gaps: Subtract the first number from the second, the second from the third, and the third from the fourth.
The “Arithmetic” Rule: In a true arithmetic sequence, the gap (common difference) must be identical every time.
Decision Time:
YES: If every gap is exactly the same (e.g., all are +5), click “YES”
NO: If the gap changes even once (e.g., +5, then +5, then +6), click “NO”
Phase 2: The Identification Layer (Cracking the Code)
If you correctly identified that the sequence is arithmetic, the game moves to Step 2.
Now you must define the rule.
Look at the Buttons: You will see four options.
Check the Action:
If numbers are going up, look for “Add."
If numbers are going down, look for “Subtract."
Selection: Click the button that matches the gap you calculated in Phase 1.
Phase 3: The Calculation (Prediction)
Apply that rule to the last number shown on the cards. Type the next number in the sequence into the box and hit Submit.
Scoring: The Logic Streak
The brain icon at the top tracks your Logic Streak.
Win Points: You get streak points for correctly spotting a “broken” sequence OR for successfully identifying the rule of a “good” sequence.
Reset: If you make a mistake in Phase 1 OR Phase 2, your streak resets to 0 and a new sequence is generated immediately.
