Ten Frame Friends Worksheet/Game
Welcome to Ten Frame Friends Worksheet/Game. This game is all about finding “number pairs” that add up to 10. By looking at the grid, you’ll learn to see the relationship between numbers without having to count every single dot. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to Play
Look at the Red Dots
When a new round starts, you will see a Ten-Frame (a grid of 10 squares) with some red dots already inside.
Identify the Goal
The question at the top asks: “How many more dots do you need to make 10?"
The Secret: You don’t need to count the red dots! Just count the empty white squares remaining in the grid.
If you want to hear the computer explain the current setup, click 🔊 Hear Question.
Pick Your Answer
Look at the number buttons at the bottom (1 through 10). Click the number that matches how many empty spaces you found.
Check the Result
Correct! The button will turn green, and the empty squares in the grid will light up. The computer will read the math sentence back to you (e.g., “2 + 8 = 10”).
Try Again! If you pick the wrong number, the button will turn red, and the game will tell you exactly how many you were looking for.
Keep Going
Click NEXT ROUND ➔ to get a new set of dots and a new challenge.
Tips
The “Five” Rule: The top row of the frame has 5 squares. If the whole top row is full, you know you have 5 dots and need 5 more.
Subitizing: Try to “see” the empty spaces without counting them one by one. For example, if the last three boxes are empty, your brain might start to recognize that shape as “3” instantly.
