How to play the Tally Marks Worksheet/Game
Understanding the Scoring
The stats at the top keep track of your performance:
Accuracy: Shows your current success rate (e.g., 3 / 4 means you got 3 right out of 4 total tries).
Score: This is your accuracy shown as a percentage (e.g., 75%).
Two Ways to Play
Each round, the game will randomly give you one of two challenges:
A. Count Mode
In this mode, the game draws the marks for you.
Look at the tallies in the display area.
Count them: Look for groups of five (four vertical lines with a red slash) and then count any single lines left over.
Type your answer into the box and click Submit.
B. Create Mode
In this mode, the game gives you a goal number.
Read the instruction (e.g., “Build exactly 12 marks!”).
Click the + Add 1 Mark button. Watch as the game automatically adds a red slash every time you reach a group of five.
If you make a mistake, click Clear to start that round over.
Once you have the right amount, click Check My Marks.
Quick Counting Tips
Tally marks are built to be read without counting every single line. Use skip counting to get the answer faster:
See a slash? That’s 5.
Two groups with slashes? That’s 10.
Three groups? That’s 15.
Example: If you see three “bundles” and two single lines, you would count: “5, 10, 15… 16, 17!"
Feedback
Correct: You’ll hear a high note and see “Excellent! ✨”. Your accuracy and percentage will go up.
Incorrect: You’ll hear a low “buzz,” and the game will show you the correct number so you can learn for the next round.
