Welcome to the Subtract 7 Challenge! This game is designed to help you recognize the patterns of 7 sharpen your mental math skills by focusing on subtracting seven from numbers up to 20. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

 

 

How to Play

1. The Challenge
   At the center of your screen, a subtraction problem will appear (e.g., 15 - 7). Your target numbers will always be between 7 and 20, so you’ll always have a positive result to find.
   

2. Choose Your Strategy
   Since 7 is a large single digit, “counting back” can be slow. Try these expert moves instead:
   The Over-Subtract: Subtract 10 first, then add 3 back.
   Example: For 13 - 7, think 13 - 10 = 3, then 3 + 3 = 6.
   Reverse Addition: Ask yourself, “What plus 7 equals this number?"
   Example: For 12 - 7, think 7 + ? = 12. Since 7 + 5 = 12, the answer is 5.
   

3. Make Your Move
   Tap one of the four options in the grid.
   Correct: The button glows Indigo, a “Super Seven” chime plays, and your accuracy goes up.
   Oops: The button turns Rose, and you’ll get a helpful hint to help you visualize the correct answer for next time.
   

4. Track Your Accuracy
   Keep an eye on the top-right corner to see your Accuracy Score. Challenge yourself to see how many “Super Sevens” you can land in a row without a mistake.
   

5. Keep the Momentum
   Once you’ve solved a problem, the NEXT CHALLENGE ➔ button will appear. Click it to instantly jump into the next round.
