Welcome to the Subtract 6 Challenge! This interactive practice module is designed to sharpen your mental math skills by focusing on subtracting six from numbers up to 20. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

 

 

How to Play

1. Identify the Target
   The main equation appears in the center of the screen (e.g., 14 - 6). Your starting number will range from 6 up to 20, ensuring you always have a positive result to find.
   

2. The “Bridge Through 10”
   This strategy is excellent for numbers between 11 and 15. You use 10 as a “rest stop” to make the calculation easier.
   Step 1: Subtract whatever is in the ones place to get to 10.
   Step 2: Subtract the “leftover” part of the 6 from 10.
   Example (14 - 6):
   14 - 4 = 10
   Since 6 - 4 = 2, you still need to subtract 2 more.
   10 - 2 = 8
   

3. Pick Your Answer
   Four possible options will appear in the teal grid. Click or tap the correct one:
   Correct: The button glows Teal, a chime sounds, and you’ll receive a feedback message.
   Incorrect: The button turns Gray, and the system will instantly reveal the correct answer so you can learn for the next round.
   

4. Track Your Accuracy
   Monitor your performance in real-time with the Accuracy counter at the top right. It tracks how many challenges you’ve completed versus how many you got right. Aim for a perfect 100% streak.
   

5. Level Up
   Once you’ve answered, the NEXT CHALLENGE ➔ button will appear. Click it to immediately generate a new problem and keep your brain in the flow state.
   

Sound Options
Practicing in a library or a busy room? You can toggle the sound effects on and off by clicking the Speaker Icon located in the top-right corner of the interface.
