How to solve radical equations?
Solving a radical equation means isolating the variable trapped under a radical sign (like a square root \(\sqrt{x}\)). The goal is to undo the radical using inverse operations (like squaring both sides) while being careful to check for extraneous solutions—fake answers introduced during the solving process.

Step 1: Isolate the Radical
Move all terms outside the radical to the opposite side of the equation using addition or subtraction, and divide out any coefficients attached to the radical.
Step 2: Raise Both Sides to the Power of the Index
Undo the radical by raising both sides of the equation to the power matching the radical’s index:
For a square root (\(\sqrt{x}\)), square both sides ((\(\sqrt{x})2 = x\)).
For a cube root (\(\sqrt[3]{x}\)), cube both sides (\((\sqrt[3]{x})^3 = x\)).
Step 3: Solve the Remaining Equation
After eliminating the radical, solve the resulting linear or quadratic equation.
Step 4: Check for Extraneous Solutions (Crucial Step)
Squaring or raising both sides to an even power can introduce false solutions (e.g., (-3)2 = 9 and 32 = 9, which can cause a negative value to appear valid). Substitute all solved values back into the original equation to verify them.

Key Rules to Remember
Principal Square Roots: The symbol \(\sqrt{a}\) denotes the principal (non-negative) square root. If an equation simplifies to \(\sqrt{\text{expression}} = \text{negative number}\), there are no real solutions.
FOIL Binomials: When squaring a side with multiple terms (like x + 2), apply binomial expansion: (x + 2)2 = x2 + 4x + 4, not x2 + 4.
Multiple Radicals: If an equation has two radicals that cannot be isolated on separate sides, isolate one radical first, square both sides, simplify, and then isolate the remaining radical to square again.

Educational Summary
This game is designed to reinforce algebraic fluency in solving single-variable radical equations. The primary focus is helping students understand the inverse relationship between radicals and exponents, isolate radical terms, and identify extraneous solutions (non-valid solutions introduced when squaring both sides of an equation).
