Solve Radical Function Game
In this game, you need to find the value of x that makes a radical (square root) function true. Scroll down for a detailed explanation.

How to Play the Solve Radical Function Game
The Goal
You are given a function f(x) and a target value. You need to find the input (x) that results in that output.
For example:
Function: f(x) = \(\sqrt{x + 5} + 2\)
Target: Solve for x at f(x) = 7

The 3-Step Strategy
To solve these, follow the: Isolate, Square, Solve.

  1. Isolate the Radical
The square root symbol (\(\sqrt{\dots}\)) is like a cage. You must move everything outside the cage to the other side first.
Action: Subtract the number added at the end.
    Example: If \(\sqrt{x + 5} + 2 = 7\), subtract 2 from both sides to get:
    \(\sqrt{x + 5} = 5\)

  2. Square Both Sides
To “break” the square root cage, you use its opposite: you need to square.
Action: Square both sides of the equation.
    Example: (\(\sqrt{x + 5})^2 = 5^2\).
    This simplifies to:
    x + 5 = 25

  3. Solve for x
Now you have a simple linear equation.
Action: Move the last number to find x.
Example: Subtract 5 from 25 to get:
    x = 20

Controls & Interface
The Display: The top box shows the “Rule,” and the blue text shows the “Target” you are aiming for.
Input Box: Type your final calculated number for x here.
Submit: Press Enter or click Submit Solution.
Feedback: If you get it wrong, the card will shake! Check your math—did you forget to square the right side? (e.g., 52 is 25, not 10).
Streak: Try to see how many you can get right in a row.
