How to Play the Game

1. Listen Closely:
   When a new round starts, the game will automatically read a secret word aloud using high-clarity text-to-speech.
   

2. Look at the Options:
   Two word choices will appear on the grid buttons below the audio area—one without a silent e (a short vowel sound) and one with a silent e (a long vowel sound), such as cub and cube.
   

3. Choose the Match:
   Tap or click the button that matches the exact word you heard.
   

4. Get Instant Feedback:
   Correct Answers: The button pops green and the narrator cheers you on before advancing to a new word.
   Incorrect Answers: The button shakes red and the narrator clarifies what you clicked so you can hear the difference.
   

5. Replay Audio:
   If you miss a word or want to double-check the vowel sound, click the large speaker icon (🔊) in the center card at any time.
   

6. Track Your Score:
   Keep an eye on the scoreboard banner at the top, which updates instantly using your Score: [Correct] / [Total Attempts] layout.
   

Explaining the “Silent E” Rule
The Silent E rule (often called the Magic E rule) is a fundamental phonics concept that explains how adding the letter “e” to the end of a short, single-syllable word completely changes how it is pronounced and spelled.

1. The Vowel Changes from Short to Long
   When a single vowel is trapped between consonants (a CVC pattern like hop or kit), it makes its short vowel sound.
   

When you add an “e” to the end of that word (changing it to a CVCe pattern), the “e” remains completely quiet, but it uses its “magic” to stretch the previous vowel out, forcing it to make its long vowel sound—meaning it says its own alphabet name.
