Welcome to Set Operations Worksheet/Game. This game is a mental math game designed to help you learn the set operations: union, intersection, and complement. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

 

 

1. Understand the Problem
   At the start of each mission, you are given three data points:
   U (Universal Set): The master list of all available numbers for that round.
   Set A: A specific group of numbers taken from U.
   Set B: Another group of numbers taken from U.
   

2. Identify Your Mission
   Check the Math Notation in the center of the screen to see what operation you need to perform:
   

   Notation	Operation	Rule
   A ∩ B	Intersection	Find numbers that appear in both A and B.
   A ∪ B	Union	Combine all numbers from A and B (no duplicates).
   A'	Complement of A	Find numbers in U that are NOT in Set A.
   B'	Complement of B	Find numbers in U that are NOT in Set B.

3. Making Your Choice
   Select an Answer: Click one of the four buttons at the bottom.
   Feedback:
   Correct: You’ll hear a high-pitched “ping,” the text will turn green, and your number correct score will increase.
   Incorrect: You’ll hear a low “thud,” the button will fade, and your number attempted will increase while your correct count stays the same.
   The Null Set: If no numbers fit the rule, look for the symbol ∅ (the Empty Set).
   

4. Progressing
   Once you get the answer right, click the “NEXT MISSION →” button to generate a brand-new set of data and a different operation.
