Educational Summary
Target Audience: Grade 2 (Ages 7–8)
Aligned Standard: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.C.8 — Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately.
Learning Focus: Develops fluency in counting mixed collections of coins and bills. It explicitly teaches the core strategy of organizing money from greatest value to least value and using cumulative addition (“counting on”) to calculate total monetary value accurately.

Teacher’s Guide
Math Center Rotation
Set up the game as an independent station during math guided practice. Assign students 8–10 minutes in their designated skill mode. The live score ratio (Correct / Attempted) gives you an instant, glanceable metric for formative assessment as you walk through rotations, helping you identify students who may need additional support with skip counting by 5s, 10s, or 25s.
Whole-Group & Interactive Whiteboard
Project the game onto your display board to kick off money units or conduct quick warm-ups. Have the entire class count along out loud as you point to each bill and coin from left to right. Alternatively, have students write the final total on individual dry-erase boards before revealing the multiple-choice options.

Differentiated Instruction
Tailor practice to fit student needs using the mode dropdown. Assign Coins Only (<$1.00) to students working on mastering coin identification and basic skip counting (25, 35, 40, 41). Transition proficient students to $1 & $5 Bills + Coins to challenge them with switching between whole dollar counts and decimal/cent additions.

Tactile Math Integration
Pair this digital tool with physical play money at student desks. When a problem generates on screen, have students recreate the exact pile of bills and coins on their desks, physically arrange them from greatest to least value, and move each piece aside as they count on aloud. This concrete-to-digital connection reinforces spatial and numerical understanding.
