In this game, you take on the role of a cashier or a diner who needs to calculate the final amount on a receipt after adding Sales Tax or a Tip. How to play the Sales Tax Game

1. The Financial Formula
   To find the total, you have to perform two steps:
   find the “extra” amount (price × rate) and add it back to the original price.
   Total = Price + (Price × Rate)
   

2. How to Play a Round
   Check the Subtotal: This is the base price of the items (e.g., 40).
   Identify the Rate: Look at the percentage in the green box. It will tell you if you are adding a Tip or Sales Tax (e.g., 15%).
   Calculate the Add-on:
   Find 15% of 40.
   Calculation: 40 × 0.15 = 6.
   Finalize the Bill: Add that extra amount to your subtotal.
   Calculation: $40 + $6 = $46.
   Enter your answer and hit “Finalize Bill."
   

3. Professional Shortcuts (Mental Math)
   You don’t need a calculator if you use these “Cashier Shortcuts”:
   The 10% Shift: To find 10% of any number, just move the decimal point one place to the left.
   Example: 10% of 80 is 8.0.
   The 5% “Half”: Find 10% and then cut it in half.
   Example: 10% of 60 is 6, so 5% is 3.
   The 20% “Double”: Find 10% and double it.
   Example: 10% of 50 is 5, so 20% is 10.
   

4. Game Feedback
   Streak: Every correct answer builds your streak.
   Shortage: If you get it wrong, the screen will shake, and the game will show you exactly how much the “add-on” was so you can learn for the next round.
