How to play the Round Decimals with 9’s Game

1. Select Your Precision
   From the Main Menu, choose which place value you want to target:
   Nearest Whole Number: Round decimals like 4.97 to the nearest integer.
   Nearest Tenth: Focus on the first decimal place (e.g., 3.196).
   Nearest Hundredth: Focus on the second decimal place (e.g., 0.496).
   Chain Reaction: Round numbers like 0.999 where a change may cascade through every place value to reach 1.00.
   Mix: A randomized blend of all three modes.
   

2. Stage One: The Decision
   A decimal number will appear on the cards. Look at the Target Place (based on your mission) and then look at its Neighbor (the digit immediately to the right).
   STAY DOWN: Click this if the neighbor is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4.
   ROUND UP: Click this if the neighbor is 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9.
   

3. Stage Two: Solve
   If your decision was correct, the buttons will disappear and an input box will show up. Now you must calculate the “Cascade."
   The 9 Rule: If you are rounding a 9 up, it becomes a 0, and you must increase the digit to its left by 1.
   Example: Rounding 0.996 to the nearest hundredth? The 6 tells the hundredths-9 to round up. That 9 becomes a 0, which pushes the tenths-9 to become a 0, which finally pushes the ones place to become a 1.
   Final Answer: Type the resulting number (e.g., 1.00 or 1) and click Submit.
   

Tips
Trailing Zeros: In this game, 1, 1.0, and 1.00 are all mathematically equal. If you round 0.99 up to the nearest whole number, “1” is a perfect answer.
Ignore the Rest: When rounding to the Tenths, only the Hundredths digit matters. You can completely ignore the Thousandths digit for that initial “Up or Down” decision.
