How to play

1. Choose Your Game Mode:
   Regular or Irregular?: Read the verb and sentence. Decide whether the base verb takes an -ed ending (Regular) or breaks the standard rule (Irregular). Once selected, the correct past-tense verb automatically fills in the sentence blank.
   Past Tense Builder: Read the base verb and sentence context, then type the correct past-tense form directly into the blank space.
   

2. Read the Sentence & Identify: Look at the highlighted base verb and its context sentence to determine how the word changes in the past tense.
   

3. Submit Your Answer:
   Click Regular (-ed) or Irregular (Rule Breaker) in Mode 1.
   Type your answer and click Check Answer (or press Enter) in Mode 2.
   

4. Review the Rule: Read the immediate corrective feedback and spelling rule hint (e.g., Drop silent -e, Double the final consonant, Vowel shift) to reinforce why the verb behaves that way.
   

5. Move to the Next Verb: Click the Next Question ➔ button to proceed through all 10 questions in your game set.

   A. Standard Addition (Just Add -ed)
   Rule: Add -ed directly to the base verb without changing the base spelling.

B. Drop Silent E Rule
Rule: Drop the silent -e at the end of the base verb, then add -ed.
bake → baked
chase → chased
dance → danced
wave → waved

C. Double Consonant Rule (1-1-1 Rule)
Rule: Double the final consonant for short-vowel, single-consonant words, then add -ed.
grab → grabbed

D. Change Y to I Rule
Rule: For verbs ending in a consonant + -y, change the -y to -i, then add -ed.
