Ratio Worksheet/Game
Welcome to the Ratio Challenge! This educational is designed to help students master part-to-part relationships using intuitive tape diagrams. By turning abstract numbers into vibrant, color-coded bar models, this game bridges the gap between counting and conceptual ratio reasoning. Whether used as a quick classroom warm-up or a targeted practice tool, Ratio Modeler builds a strong foundation in proportional thinking through immediate visual feedback and adaptive challenges. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

How to Play

  1. Configure Your Settings
Before diving into the challenge, you can customize your gameplay session from the main menu using three simple toggle switches:
Require Simplified Ratios: When turned on, you must reduce the ratio to its simplest terms (dividing both parts by their greatest common factor). When turned off, you simply enter the exact direct block count.
Audio Engine Feeds: Toggles the sound effects on or off. Correct answers trigger an ascending chime, while incorrect inputs play a distinct correction tone.
60-Second Speed Run: Turn this on for a timed challenge to see how many models you can solve in one minute, or turn it off for an untimed, relaxed practice session.

  2. Analyze the Bar Model
Once you click Start Modeling, a question will load alongside a dynamic tape diagram. The diagram features two rows of blocks representing different items (such as blue blocks vs. red blocks, or blueberries vs. strawberries).
The top row represents the Left value (colored Sky Blue).
The bottom row represents the Right value (colored Rose Red).

  3. Enter and Verify Your Answer
Carefully read the prompt to see if you need to provide the exact count or the simplified ratio.
Type your values into the two input boxes separated by the colon (:). The left box corresponds to the top row, and the right box corresponds to the bottom row.
Click Verify Ratio or press the Enter key on your keyboard to submit your answer.

  4. Continuous Learning & Scoring
On a Correct Answer: You earn 10 points, and the game instantly generates a brand-new problem.
On an Incorrect Answer: The timer pauses, and a Corrective Feedback Modal overlays the screen. This window breaks down the math explicitly—showing you the raw count, the greatest common factor division (if simplification is active), and the correct answer so you can learn from the mistake.
Click Sync & Continue (or press Enter) to resume.

When the timer runs out (or you click Exit), you will be taken to the summary screen to review your final score and total correct submissions.
