Percentage Error Game Quiz/Worksheet

How to play the Percentage Error Game
The Scientific Formula
Memorize the structure on the Main Menu. The vertical bars (| |) are the most important part—they represent Absolute Value, meaning if your subtraction results in a negative number, you just drop the minus sign.
\(\frac{|\text{Experimental} - \text{Actual}|}{\text{Actual}} \times 100\%\)
Step-by-Step
Find the “Gap”: Look at the Actual Value and Your Estimate. Subtract them.
Example: Actual is 80, Estimate is 60. The gap is 20.
Example: Actual is 80, Estimate is 100. The gap is 20.
(In both cases, the top number of your fraction is 20).
Divide by the Truth: Always divide that gap by the Actual Value.
20 ÷ 80 = 0.25
Convert to Percent: Multiply by 100.
0.25 × 100 = 25%
Key Differences to Remember
No Negative Answers: If you type a minus sign, you will be wrong. Error measures how far you are from the target, regardless of direction.
Mental Shortcuts for High Streaks
Use these patterns to calculate the percentage faster than a calculator:
| If the “Gap” is… | Compared to the Actual… | Your Answer is… |
|---|---|---|
| Exactly the same | Estimate is 20, Actual is 10 | 100% |
| Half | Estimate is 15, Actual is 10 | 50% |
| One-Quarter | Estimate is 10, Actual is 8 | 25% |
| One-Tenth | Estimate is 11, Actual is 10 | 10% |
