How to play the PEMDAS with Decimals Game

  1. Set Up Your Session
When you first open the game, you’ll see the Main Menu. Before clicking “Start Session,” choose your difficulty:
    Problem Length:
    3 Numbers:
    Keeps equations simple (e.g., 1.2 + 0.5 × 2.1).
    Mixed:
Randomly gives you equations with 3 or 4 numbers for an extra challenge.
    Parentheses:
With ( ): Adds brackets to the mix, forcing you to solve those parts first.
No ( ): Focuses on the standard order of Multiplications/Division before Addition/Subtraction.

  2. Solving the Problem (The PEMDAS Rule)
Once the game starts, an equation appears in the center box. You must solve it using the standard mathematical priority:
    Parentheses (Solve what’s inside first).
Exponents (Not used in this specific version of the code).
MD Multiplication and Division (From left to right).
AS Addition and Subtraction (From left to right).

Note on Decimals: The game typically generates numbers with one decimal place (e.g., 0.5), but the final answer might have two (e.g., 1.25).

  3. Entering Your Answer
Type your result into the large input box in the center.
Verify: Click the Verify button or press Enter on your keyboard to check your work.
Correct: The input turns green, a chime plays, and your score increases.
Incorrect: The input turns red, a low tone plays, and the game reveals the correct answer so you can see where you went wrong.
Next: Click the Next button to generate a brand-new problem.

  4. Game Controls
Score: Located at the top, it tracks how many you’ve gotten right out of your total attempts.
Sound Toggle (🔈): Turns the feedback chimes on or off.
Back Button (‹): Returns you to the main menu to change the difficulty or reset your score.
