Parabola Visualizer
This interactive tool demonstrates the formal geometric definition of a parabola: a curve where every point is exactly the same distance from a fixed point (the Focus) and a flat line (the Directrix).

 

 

How to Play

1. Adjust the Focal Distance (p):
   Drag the Focal Distance (p) slider.
   Increasing p moves the Focus (red dot) higher and drops the Directrix (green dashed line) lower, widening the blue parabola.
   Decreasing p pulls them closer to the center, narrowing the parabola.
   

2. Trace the Curve:
   Drag the Move Point along Curve slider to slide the blue point (P) left and right along the parabola.
   

3. Compare the Distances:
   Look at the gold dashed lines connecting the blue point to the red Focus and the green Directrix. As you move the point, look at the live counter at the bottom. Notice that Distance to Focus always perfectly matches Distance to Directrix, proving the geometric rule of a parabola.
