Order of Ops (Mult/Div) Quiz/Game-Integer
Welcome to Order Ops (Mult/Div), Integer Version. In this game, you goal is to simplify multiplication and division problems by solving them line by line. This game helps you master the “equal priority” rule: when you only have multiplication and division, you always solve from left to right. This version specifically focuses on multiplication and division while introducing negative numbers. Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.

Check out the following Order of Operations Games/Quizzes for the complete PEMDAS series.

The Core Rules
The “Left-to-Right” Law
When you have a string of multiplication and division, they have equal priority in the order of operations. You must solve the operation on the far left first.
Example: For -24 / 4 * 2, you solve -24 / 4 first, then multiply the result by 2.

Mind the Signs
The game will randomly assign negative values. You need to remember the laws of signs for multiplication and division:

Operation Result
Positive × Positive Positive (+)
Negative × Negative Positive (+)
Positive × Negative Negative (-)
Negative × PositiveNegative (-)

How to play the Order of Ops (Mult/Div) Game

  1. Look at the “Active Step”: This is your current math problem (e.g., -12 * 2 / 4).

  2. Solve the Leftmost Part: Calculate only the first operation.
    Calculation: -12 * 2 = -24.

  3. Type the Simplified Line: In the input box, type the result of that first part followed by the rest of the unsolved equation.
    You type: -24 / 4

  4. Validate: Hit Enter or click “Validate Step."
If correct, the old line moves to the History and you solve the next step (-6).
If wrong, you lose your streak.

Tips
Spaces are Optional: The game is smart. You can type -24/4 or -24 / 4.
Don’t Rush the Sign: Most errors happen by forgetting that a Negative ÷ Positive stays Negative.
Check the History: If you get stuck, look at the faded lines above the active step to see how you reached the current point.
