Number Spell Check Quiz/Game
Welcome to Number Spell Check. In this game, the challenge moves beyond just knowing the number—it tests your ability to spot the difference between the correct spelling and tricky common mistakes (like “two” vs “tow” or “eight” vs “ate”). Scroll down the page for a more detailed explanation.
How to play the Number Spell Check Game
Pick Your Difficulty
Level 1 (1 to 10): Focuses on basic number spellings.
Level 2 (11 to 20): Focuses on the trickier “teen” numbers.
Analyze the Digit
A large blue number will appear in the center of the screen. Look at it closely.
Spot the Correct Spelling
Below the digit, you will see four buttons. Only one is spelled correctly. The other three are “distractors” designed to look like common spelling mistakes.
Correct Match: If you click the right spelling, a happy chime plays, a “Correct!” message pops up in green, and your score increases.
Wrong Match: If you click a misspelling, a low “thump” sound plays, the button flashes red, and a “Try Again!” message appears. Don’t worry—you can keep trying until you find the right one.
The Goal
Try to get the highest score possible without being fooled by the “wrong” versions of the words.
Why this is great for Learning
This game teaches that just because a word “sounds” right (like ate for the number 8), doesn’t mean it’s the correct symbol for that number.
| The Digit | Correct Spelling | Tricky Mistakes |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Two | To, Too, Tow |
| 8 | Eight | Ate, Eigth, Eighte |
| 15 | Fifteen | Fiveteen, Fiftin, Fiften |
Tip for Students
Watch out for the “Silent Letters”! Words like eight and two are the trickiest because we don’t pronounce every letter we see. Use the feedback message to help you memorize the “shape” of the correct word.
